Note: This is an incomplete file from an old diskette. I put it here for historic purposes.
Well, think of it this way: sure, it's November and you haven't heard from your faithful Commissioner in weeks, and you're beginning to suspect he's taken off for Aruba with the League money (Hey, I'd be lucky to make it to Newark on this jackpot); but did you really want to even think about baseball during those ugly first weeks of October, when the Sox were humiliated both by the A's, who pummelled them into submission, and by the Reds, who finessed the A's into blubbering infants? We can only wonder how badly the Reds would have beaten the Red Sox. Still, that last week of the regular season was as memorable as they get...
Anyway, even though you're getting this Final Report just shy of New Year's, think of it as a pleasant reminder of baseball past, recalling the fun moments of the long Summer and Fall, rather than the ignominious crash landing at the end. And also think about next year, which is all the more near on the horizon, thanks to Yours Truly's generous willingness to postpone giving you the 1990 results. Most of all, thank the heavens above that, as you read this, the worst season of all, the most pathetic joke of all contests namely, the election campaign is at last over.
But now, on with the tension. Naturally, you will not be permitted simply to learn the final standings right up front. This is intended, for the contenders, as a dramatic approximation of an end-of-season pennant fight: will Brunansky catch that ball? So read along, and take lots of notes, and remember HEY, YOU, QUIT TURNING TO THE LAST PAGE! no peeking.
When last we left the Good IV League, the Skid Rowes held a 2-point advantage over the Pets, with the Cities a solid third, and the Savages fourth. The Kings and Jay Jays were both in the running for a piece of the pie, 1.5 points and 2.5 points, respectively, out of 4th place. There were many close races in numerous categories, which could swing the results in any number of directions.
We will proceed through the individual categories, noting the tight contests and interesting outcomes as they occur, and showing the cumulative standings at each juncture.
Batting Average
As of the last report, the Cities led at .269, with the Mountain Men and the Pets all but tied at .266, and the Schlagers and EggLegs right behind at .264. Here are the final results: Standings

This is the second year the Cities have finished strongly in this category, which I attribute to the fact that I am guilty of almost always looking at BA first when I evaluate a hitter. You will note that I didn't exactly corner the market on .300 hitters; in fact, on my final roster, only Shane Mack and Alex Cole reached .300 for the season, and neither of them resided with the Cities for more than 1/2 a season. The key, I will exclaim, is moving players in and out: getting them when they're hot, dumping them when they're cold. For example, while with the Cities, Edgar Diaz hit .339 (.271 season), George Bell hit .293 (.265 season), and Felix Jose (for whom I traded Bell) hit .289 (.264 season).
Note the very close finishes here, especially the Skid Rowes' narrow rise from 8th in the last report to 7th here. An important pickup of one point for them, and an important loss of a point for the Savages.
Runs Batted In
The Skid Rowes, Savages, and Pets had been fighting it out in this category all year, with Cecil Fielder virtually carrying the Savages, and the Pets potent lineup anchored by Kelly Gruber, Fred McGriff, and Kent Hrbek. But in the end, the Rowes dominated with a solid draft of 60+ RBI men, plus key mid-season pickups in Kevin Maas and Frank Thomas. Standings
